New Coat of Arms on Banknotes from August

The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago has announced that the new Coat of Arms will be introduced on banknotes starting in August 2026, beginning with the Series 2026 TT$100 denomination.

Implementation Details

The updated Coat of Arms, which became valid on February 25, 2025, will gradually replace the former emblem on all banknotes and coins. The transition will commence with the $100 note, followed by other denominations in a phased approach.

Legal Tender Status

Banknotes and coins featuring the former Coat of Arms will remain legal tender until January 2, 2031, or a later date if extended by the Minister of Home Affairs. This allows for a smooth transition and continued public confidence in the currency.

Significance of the Change

The introduction of the new Coat of Arms reflects the nation's commitment to updating its symbols to better represent its identity and heritage. The Central Bank assures that the design change will not affect the security features or value of the currency.
