Hela Province Initiates Independent Police Recruitment Drive

Hela Province has announced plans to conduct its own police recruitment exercise, separate from the national program, aiming to bolster local law enforcement capabilities.

Background

Governor Philip Undialu revealed that the province has secured approval from Police Commissioner David Manning and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) recruitment team to proceed with a dedicated recruitment initiative. This decision addresses longstanding challenges related to limited police presence and manpower shortages in the region.

Recruitment Details

The recruitment team from RPNGC is scheduled to be in Hela from August 17 to 21, 2026. The process will adhere to the National Police Headquarters' standards and procedures, ensuring consistency and quality in the selection of candidates.

Objectives and Implications

Governor Undialu emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen law and order in Hela. By providing local youths with direct opportunities to join the police force, the province aims to build a more responsive and representative law enforcement body. Eligible applicants, particularly Grade 12 school leavers, FODE, and TVET graduates, are encouraged to prepare for the upcoming recruitment.
