'King Khan' Admits Breaching High Court Asset Freeze Order

Imran Khan, popularly known as "King Khan," has been found guilty after admitting to breaching a High Court restraining order issued under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Khan entered a guilty plea in the High Court to one count of contravening the restraining order and will be sentenced on July 14. The charge relates to the disposal of a vehicle that was subject to a court order freezing a number of assets pending legal proceedings. The restrained assets included a property valued at about $400,000, cash held in a local bank account, and four vehicles.

Following the guilty plea, the court granted the State and the defense time to finalize the Summary of Facts before setting the matter down for sentencing. Defense lawyer Jerry Dinati told the court that mitigation submissions were ready.

Earlier this year, Police and Republic of Fiji Military Forces personnel carried out searches at properties linked to Khan in Makoi, Valelevu, and Davuilevu. Authorities said the operation formed part of efforts to locate one of the vehicles covered by the restraining order that had not been accounted for.

Khan remains convicted and is expected to return to court next month for sentencing.
