Mauritania Announces Recruitment of 40 New Judges
The Mauritanian Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Judicial Recruitment Committee, has announced a competitive examination to recruit 40 new judges to strengthen the country's judicial system.
Details of the Recruitment Process
The recruitment process is divided into two main components:
- External Competition: This segment aims to select 32 trainee judges. Eligible candidates must hold a second-cycle university degree in law or Sharia and be between 25 and 45 years old. Successful candidates will undergo training at the Higher Institute of Judiciary and Judicial Professions.
- Professional Selection: This pathway is designed for the direct appointment of 8 judges. It targets candidates aged between 35 and 50 years, including five principal clerks with at least 10 years of experience and three lawyers with a minimum of seven years of practice.
Application and Examination Schedule
Applications are to be submitted through the dedicated digital platform (recrutements.gov.mr) from August 12 to August 21, 2026. The written examinations for the external competition are scheduled for Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the premises of the Higher Institute of Judiciary.
Selection Criteria
