Minister Arias-Vasquez outlines business priorities at GFSB Annual Dinner

Key Announcements
Minister Arias-Vasquez emphasized the transition from treaty negotiation to implementation, highlighting the recent publication of customs guidance on special procedures and transit arrangements. She announced that an extensive list of frequently asked questions would be available on the government's Treaty website later that week.
To facilitate businesses in adapting to new export procedures, HM Customs is set to launch a testing platform for the new forms required for exporting goods from Gibraltar. This platform will initially be tested by the Trade Facilitation Committee, which includes frequent users of ASYCUDA and representatives from the GFSB and Chamber of Commerce. Subject to successful testing, the platform is expected to become operational by the end of June. Infrastructure and Security Enhancements
The Minister reiterated the government's commitment to enhancing key commercial areas, including Main Street, Casemates, and Chatham Counterguard. New Residence Criteria
Minister Arias-Vasquez previewed the forthcoming announcement of new residence criteria, developed in collaboration with the Chief Minister. The criteria will focus on genuine economic contribution, real employment and business activity, suitable accommodation, and regulatory compliance.
Business Promotion and Support
The government plans to organize business events in the United Kingdom and southern Spain to attract investors, entrepreneurs, and professional advisers to Gibraltar. Further support for businesses is anticipated to be announced during the upcoming Budget debate.
Regulatory Compliance
To ensure compliance with the new framework, the government has appointed a state aid expert within the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority. This expert will independently regulate compliance and advise on how support can continue to be provided to businesses within applicable legal parameters.
Consultation on New Business Act
Consultation with the GFSB and Chamber of Commerce on a new Business Act is set to begin next week. The consultation, to be circulated by the CEO of Business, John Paul Fa, will run until the end of September.
