Church Council Urges Federal Government to Address Insecurity
The Spiritual Advisory Council of Christ Church, Port Harcourt, has called on both Federal and State governments to intensify efforts in tackling the prevailing insecurity across Nigeria, emphasizing the need for citizens to experience a safer environment.
In a communiquéissued at the conclusion of its 10th meeting held from September èrd to sth, 2026, themed 'Manifesting His Glory,' the council expressed deep concern over the persistent occurrences of kidnappings and violent crimes nationwide.
The council, comprising leaders from the Anglican, Methodist, and Presbyterian Churches, highlighted the detrimental impact of insecurity on the nation's socio-economic development and the well-being of its citizens.
Furthermore, the council condemned the "unrestrained, flagrant display of affluence by some public servants and the political class," urging for greater accountability, selflessness, and efficiency within the public service.
The communiqué, signed by His Eminence, The Most Rev'd Ekpenyong Nyong Akpanika, Prelate and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria and Chairman of the 10th SAC of Christ Church, Port Harcourt, and Elder Deinabo Tennyson Horsfall, Secretary of the 10th SAC, called for a concerted effort to address the root causes of insecurity.
The council emphasized the importance of implementing comprehensive strategies that involve community engagement, intelligence gathering, and the strengthening of security agencies to effectively combat crime.
Additionally, the council urged religious organizations and civil society groups to collaborate with the government in promoting peace, unity, and social cohesion among Nigerians.
