Estonia Enacts Crisis and National Defence Act
On June 2, 2026, the Riigikogu passed the Crisis Situation and National Defence Act, consolidating existing laws to enhance Estonia's crisis preparedness and defense capabilities. The Act clarifies roles during crises, assigns specific tasks to local governments, and mandates the creation of a nationwide crisis plan. It also grants the Prime Minister authority to coordinate crisis responses and allows the Defence Forces greater autonomy in immediate threats. This legislation reflects Estonia's proactive approach to national security and crisis management.
