Flags to Fly at Half-Mast for Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac

The Government of Saint Lucia has announced that all national flags at government buildings throughout the island and at Saint Lucia's overseas missions will be flown at half-mast from June 9, 2026, until the day of interment of former Governor General, His Excellency Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac, G.C.S.L., G.C.M.G. This observance is part of the official period of national mourning following Sir Neville's passing on June 2, 2026.

Sir Neville's Service to the Nation

Sir Neville served as Saint Lucia's sixth Governor General from January 12, 2018, to October 31, 2021. Prior to his appointment, he held several significant positions, including Mayor of Castries, Parliamentary Representative for Laborie, Leader of the Opposition, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and President of the Senate. His contributions to public service and national development spanned nearly five decades.

State Funeral Arrangements

In recognition of Sir Neville's service to the nation, the Government of Saint Lucia has approved a state funeral. The funeral will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (The Cathedral) in Castries.

As part of the official observances, Sir Neville will lie in state at the House of Parliament on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Government officials will have the opportunity to pay their respects from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by members of the public.
