Constitutional Court Upholds Lawyers' Right to Contract with State Bodies

The Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan has affirmed the legality of lawyers providing legal services to state bodies on a contractual basis. This decision came in response to a request from the National Center for Human Rights of Uzbekistan, which sought clarification on the compatibility of the Legal Profession Law with the Constitution.

The Court examined the provision allowing lawyers to offer services to government entities and concluded that it does not infringe upon individuals' rights to qualified legal assistance. Furthermore, the Court emphasized that such contractual relationships are governed by civil law contracts, distinguishing them from civil service positions.

This ruling reinforces the framework for legal professionals to engage with state institutions, ensuring that the provision of legal services remains consistent with constitutional principles.
