New Constitutional Court Judges Sworn In; Artur Vera Cruz Appointed President

On February 26, 2026, five new judges were sworn into the Constitutional Court of S03o Tomee and Preedncipe in a ceremony presided over by the President of the National Assembly, Abnildo d'Oliveira. The newly appointed judges are Artur Vera Cruz, Jonas Gentil, Ludmila Gloria, Marta Sacramento, and Rolando Costa Neto.

Following the swearing-in, the judges elected Artur Vera Cruz as the President of the Constitutional Court, in accordance with Article 29 of the Court's regulations. In his address, President Vera Cruz emphasized the judges' commitment to serving the law and the people, stating, "We are at the service of the law and the people; we are not at the service of anyone." He underscored the importance of contributing to the credibility, trust, and hope in the judiciary's functions.

President of the National Assembly, Abnildo d'Oliveira, highlighted that the dignity of the Court is built through the quality of its decisions and the confidence it inspires among citizens.

This appointment comes amid a period of significant judicial reforms in S03o Tomee and Preedncipe, reflecting the nation's ongoing efforts to strengthen its legal institutions and uphold the rule of law.
