Portuguese force concludes AMLEP mission in S03o Tom and Prdncipe

A Portuguese National Detachment has successfully concluded its participation in the Africa Maritime Law Enforcement Partnership (AMLEP) mission in S03o Tom and Prdncipe, reinforcing maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.

Mission Overview

On April 2, 2026, a contingent of approximately 30 Portuguese military personnel, along with a P-3C CUP+ Orion aircraft from the Portuguese Air Force, completed their deployment in S03o Tom and Prdncipe. The mission aimed to enhance maritime surveillance and law enforcement capabilities in the region.

Operational Achievements

During the mission, the detachment conducted seven maritime patrol flights over the Gulf of Guinea, totaling around 40 flight hours. These operations focused on monitoring the Exclusive Economic Zone of S03o Tom and Prdncipe to detect and deter illicit maritime activities.

Capacity Building

In addition to surveillance operations, the mission included technical-military cooperation activities such as training programs for local authorities, knowledge sharing, and community engagement initiatives.
