Kampala Courts Suspend Hearings for National Court Open Day

On September 10, 2026, the Judiciary of Uganda will host the third National Court Open Day at Kololo Independence Grounds under the theme "Delivering Inclusive, Efficient and Effective Justice." This event aims to enhance public engagement with the judicial system, allowing citizens to interact directly with judicial officers and learn about court processes and ongoing reforms.

As a result, court hearings in Kampala will be suspended for the day to facilitate participation. However, court registries will remain open to receive new cases and handle administrative matters. Principal Judge Jane Frances Abodo emphasized that while judicial work will continue at a slower pace, the event provides a crucial platform for the public to understand and contribute to the justice system.

The National Court Open Day will feature exhibitions, question-and-answer sessions, and one-on-one engagements between the public and judicial officers. Topics such as digitalization of case management, plea bargaining, and mediation will be highlighted to showcase reforms aimed at improving access to justice and service delivery.

Citizens are encouraged to attend the event to raise concerns, seek clarifications, and provide feedback on justice services. This initiative reflects the Judiciary's commitment to transparency, public trust, and continuous improvement in delivering justice to all Ugandans.
